I always strive for clean design, without ornamentation. Chests may be made from a wide variety of woods although hardwoods are recommended. Mixing and matching woods for the top, sides, drawer fronts, knobs and pegs can give a wide variety of interesting looks. Secondary woods are usually basswood or poplar, sometimes clear #1 grade pine. I enjoy making dovetailed joinery by hand, as the look is more visually appealing and I join cabinet sides with hand cut butterfly inlays whenever needed. All surfaces, inside and out are finely sanded and finished. All drawers are made to perfection, allowing them to slide freely with an almost airtight fit without using manufactured metal slides. I prefer natural finishes such as oil and wax, wax only or sometimes I use a urethane mixture to protect against water when necessary. The pieces of furniture I make will last for generations with only a little care. I want these to last because I put so much effort into making them.
Additional Pricing Information for Apothecary and Cd Storage Chests:
A rough price guideline is $200 X (the number of drawers) for standard apothecary chests with a 10" - 12" depth, front to back. However, chests depths may be up to 18 inches deep. If you want a deeper chest than 12", an additional charge is calculated based on the number of extra inches of depth greater than 12 inches. You may calculate the additional cost by adding an extra $100.00 per inch of cabinet depth greater than 12". For small cabinets add $50 per inch.
There is an additional $150 crating charge for truck shipping when necessary. This covers the cost of a very solid wooden crate necessary to prevent damage during shipping.
